Dr. Don Stanton

Dr. Stanton leads Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s new regional decarbonization technology activities. He focuses on deployment of later-stage technologies that can drive decarbonization across geographic regions and large sections of the economy. Prior to ORNL, Dr. Stanton worked for more than 28 years in industry where he specialized in technology and product strategies to decarbonize transportation ecosystems. He is recognized for his contributions in the development of commercial vehicle powertrains, off-road vehicles, power generation systems, and hydrogen generation and storage.

Don received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and holds master’s degrees in business administration, mechanical engineering, chemistry, and mathematics. He is an SAE Fellow, has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed papers, and holds 49 patents with 12 more pending.
