Mr. Steve Chalk is the current Deputy Assistant Secretary for Transportation at the Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. He directs electric vehicle and smart mobility research, vehicle-to-grid integration, bioenergy and hydrogen fuel cell research. He served as Acting Assistant Secretary during the Obama-to-Trump and Bush-to-Obama presidential transitions where he led $2B research portfolio and mission-support functions for research, development and deployment programs conducted in partnership with industry, universities and National Laboratories to sustain U.S. leadership in the transition to a clean energy economy. Mr. Chalk also oversaw the expansion of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, a Federally-Funded Research and Development Center, comprising of 1600 scientists and engineers with a $400M operating budget. He has received 3 Presidential Rank Awards and the Science and Environment medal from the Partnership for Public Service.
