Mr. Chris Thomas

Mr. Chris Thomas joined the Global Automotive Strategy and Technology group in January 2018.  Prior Chris served as the Chief Technology Officer for BorgWarner and in a variety of positions of increasing responsibility at Chrysler Group LLC including Head of International Industrial Strategy, Global Program Manager of the Phoenix Engine Program, and Head of Advanced  Engine Engineering.

Mr. Thomas holds over thirty patents in engine design, control algorithms, thermal management, and drivetrain systems in both the United States and Europe. He was the recipient of the Walter P. Chrysler Award and SAE’s Forest R. McFarland Award.  He was elected an SAE Fellow by SAE International in 2011.  Mr. Thomas has been featured on Autoline Detroit, Bloomberg Radio, AutoBeat, and other radio and televised media.  He was on the cover of Industry Week, and quoted and featured in articles in Forbes, Wall Street Journal, SAE Magazine, SAE Commercial Vehicle, VDI, Industry Week, Automotive News, JSAE Engine Systems, and other print and web media.

He has been a Keynote speaker at Aachen Colloquium and VDI Forum as well as a panelist and presenter at SAE Fuels and Lubricants, SAE High Efficiency Engine Symposium, SAE North American International Powertrain Conference, SAE Joint Government Industry Conference, SAE Transmission and Driveline Symposium, Annual China High Level Engine Conference, and others.

Mr. Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology in Manchester, England. He received his Master’s Diploma in Strategy and Innovation from the Said Business School at the University of Oxford. He also serves as a Visiting Professor at the University of Huddersfield, and on the Board of Directors at US Venture where he is also Chair of the Governance Committee.
